BARBERING
The barber program includes instruction in
hairstyling, haircutting, perms, coloring, hair

ESTHETICS
The esthetic
program includes instruction in skin and spa
treatments including facials, waxing and eyebrow
shaping, microdermabrasion,
and other spa elements. The field of esthetics has
been growing quickly and there’s great demand for
skin care professionals in salons throughout the
country. There has never been a better time to get
started with a new career as an esthetician.

ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS
To be admitted to AHD as a regular student,
applicants must be high school graduates or
equivalent, and must be at least 16 years of age.
To be admitted to the Instructor Training program, applicants must have a valid license from the State of Alaska or other licensing jurisdiction to practice barbering, hairdressing or esthetics for at least one year prior to commencing the program. The applicant must be a high school graduate or equivalent, and must be at least eighteen 18 years of age.
An admission interview is required. Applications for admission are reviewed and evaluated on the basis of scholastic records and career goals.
All students enrolling in the esthetician, barbering or hairdressing programs offered by AHD must obtain a student permit, valid for one year, from the State of Alaska Board of Barbers and Hairdressers. The application for a student permit and permit fee must accompany the student’s application of admission.
Interested applicants are encouraged to call AHD to set up an appointment to review all admission requirements and to tour the facilities.
Two Scholarships are awarded each year for
qualified Alaska residents.
